At Newcastle Family Karate Centres we practice the Okinawan Goju-ryu style of Karate. Goju-Ryu translates as hard and soft style incorporating very explosive and powerful movement with soft, whip like movements. It is known around the world as one of the most effective traditional martial arts for its variety of practices. Goju-ryu originates from Okinawa, Japan and has a less militaristic approach compared to that of mainland Japan martial arts. The objective of Goju-ryu is not to break people down, but build them up to reach their full potential in self defence and life.
Our Dojo's are governed by the International Okinawa Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF) and is the parent body of our centres. IOGKF world wide has over 75,000 members in over 60 different countries. IOGKF was founded by, Master Morio Higaonna. Today IOGKF's world chief instructor is Sensei Tetsuji Nakamura. In Australia, IOGKF is represented by the Australia Okinawa Goju-ryu Karate Federation (AOGKF). An executive committee, oversees the protection and teaching of our traditional art within Australia.
